JAD Link 2 USB sound card interface

Purchased from China for digital modes. It emulates a serial port for PTT. Seems to work good with Echolink.

May need a little more audio out to the RF side.

  1. I'm having trouble with getting RX to work, TX running nicely. Please can you suggest some sysop settings. I'm using CD squelch direct to my FT1500M data port k e 6 b i d at amsat dot org

  2. Update: I'm up and running in simplex sysop, interfaced directly to a Yaesu FT1500M . The 6 pin "data" connector is very tight and was not fully seated (even though it felt like it) . An extra "shove" and everything is working. FYI anyone: else "RX ctrl" is "send CD" and "TX ctrl" is RTS.. Still messing with received audio (as in received by the radio) which seems to be over-driving the voice data sent out to Echolink. Still working out how to adjust the internal soundcard. All in all, happy with the box, An English manual would be lovely!!! I'm sure it's capable of lots of other stuff that will remain a mystery!

    1. Wondering if you can help with the 6-pin Yaesu connector. I purchased the Link 2 with the standard FT-817 connector and trying to modify it to work with my FT-2900. Do you happen to have the VGA pin orientation so i can wire to the 6-pin din to my radio?

Scan down the comments in this link (you'll have to let google auto translate for you) and you'll find the pin out. This link is on a Link 3 but the port appears to be the same. I've made a custom cable up using this and it's all good!.

  3. Hey David great news... Sorry I just saw these... Google was hiding your comments under a different Tab. I have the opposite issue. I need more audio to drive TX. I have the level at Max in the sound settings on the PC.

I have a cable wired for Icom 6 Pin right now. Apparently the FT-1500 is wired different. Sounds like I'm getting audio in the 1200 pin not the 9600 pin on the Ft-1500.

What OS? In win 7 go to Run and type Sound. you will see sound under control panel. when you open the device under playback and recording you should have a "levels" tab.

  4. Did you build or buy a cable for it?

  5. With the FT1500M I ended up setting the Packet rate to 9600 which seems to work. so that makes sense with your observation on the pins. Somewhere on the interwebs I found a pin out diagram for the Link 2 , but for the life of me I can't find it now

Different issue now. I've moved my FT1500M into the car and have Echolink running my Kenwood DM-T700 via the data port and cabling that comes with the Link2. I used the Link setup wizard to choose Rigblaster or similar interface and and serial CD detect on RX. all appears to be working correctly....BUT... when I connect to a node (say the Echolink test server) , my audio gets retransmitted just fine... all sounds good, my initial test message comes back with great audio, but then after it's finished transmitting, Echolink immediately drops into TX (that is sending out onto the network) without any signal received from the radio. If I key up it picks my audio up fine and sends it out, un-keying Echolink seems to recognize correctly and it drops out of TX and relays the message back. If I switch over to VOX everything works perfectly.. puzzling.... oh for an instruction manual!!!!

  6. I would be glad to compare settings with you.

Mine is working perfectly except for one issue. The transmit level is still half of what it needs to be with the volume on the Link2 set to max in the sound mixer.

I am not sure what the best fix for that will be. I have a signlink usb which is just too slow with all the vox activated relay in it.

I should have some time either saturday night or maybe anytime sunday.

I will send you a direct email. I just notice your address above.

  12. I pulled this device back out after it was shelved for the past year and it seems to have developeded an loud buzz for outbound transmit audio. i tested with 2 different radios and hear it so I think it maybe headed to the trashbin. There are new other options available but I may try building my own with a CM108 sound card.
